1908-2008 Centenary Year

Every Sunday (as well as at various times during the week) folk from naught to ninety and from all walks of life have met at St. Luke's. When most people think of 'church' they think of a building. Church actually refers to the people who meet in the building. That is why our centenary celebrates the first time people got together on the site rather than the completition of the building itself.

All our sermon series this Spring 2008 focus us on what it means to be Authentically Christian.

(10.30am service)

1 Thessalonians   Paul writes his first letter to the Thessalonian church to emphasize that they are genuine believers and a model church.  From it we can learn much about what church looks like, how it comes into being, and how it keeps going.

Acts   In his second book, Luke records the beginnings of the Christian church.  His aim is to show us how Jesus continues the work He began while on earth.  We will see how God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) plans and guides the spread of the Gospel, and hence Christianity, to the ends of the world.

(6.30am service)

Matthew  Matthew’s early chapters reveal that Christianity is the true continuation of the Old Testament and the fulfilment of it.  These early chapters demonstrate that Jesus is God’s promised King and that it is through Him and His gospel that the true church is born and grows.

Titus  Living in an increasingly secular and politically correct society means there are greater and greater pressures on the church to compromise.  Paul’s letter to Titus shows this is nothing new and in it we find the antidote to help us be authentic Christians - the teaching and application of sound doctrine.
Malachi   Malachi’s prophecy consists of a series of questions and answers between God and His people.  These reveal the character of God and the characteristics He expects His authentic people to show.
