At St Luke's we have a variety of home and other small groups, ensuring
that there is a suitable group for everyone. Most groups meet on a weekday evening,
some meet during the day, and one even meets over breakfast!

Homegroups are small groups of seven to twelve people meeting during the week
at someone's house. We meet to read the Bible, working out together how it
applies to our lives today, and to pray for one another. We also try to offer
care and support to each other throughout the week as it is necessary.
I've been
in a homegroup for about three years. The main thing that put me off joining initially was that I thought that if I didn't like it, or
didn't understand a word because it was too 'deep', I could not really stop going as this would seem like a backward step in my faith, and
embarrassing to those running it.
xx
However, I enjoyed it enormously straight away. My homegroup's hosts are most welcoming,
and we have excellent biscuits with coffee before we start!
xx
The best part for me is being totally at ease with a group of people of different ages, jobs and circumstances, and finding that all of the group
have valuable contributions from which I can learn. The prayer time is especially helpful, everyone is genuinely concerned about each other and the
prayers are most meaningful. There are times when these prayers have really strengthened me.
The confidentiality amongst us is also great!
xx
The material which we study varies. I enjoy studying a book from the Bible and learning about the issues. Some of the
guide books written by fellow Christians on topical issues are thought provoking and informative.
xx
If you're in doubt as to whether or not to join a house group, I'd advise you to give it a go. Nothing awful happens to you if you miss a week
or two, or at least it hasn't to me, yet!!
xx
